Cable Popular Science Series--Electrical Power Cable of the Process Flow

The electrical power cables process flow is not simple. The technological process of wire and cable is as follows. Copper rod - Tie rod- stranding - insulation - spark - cable - inner sheath - metal armoring - outer sheath. I' ll explain these processes one by one. The copper rod is the raw materials, so, it doesn' t have to be explained.  

 




Tie rod

 

The first step of making electrical power cable is drawing. The Tie rod means is that draw the rods and make it become various specifications thin wire.

 

Stranding

 

The second step of making electrical power cable is stranding. Stranding means stranding thin conductor wires together after drawing them. 

 

Insulation

 

The third step of making electrical power cable is insulation. Insulation means wrapping the stranded wire with insulating material. There are many kinds of insulating materials. They are PE, PVC, XLPE and so on. Among them, XLPE has the best performance and is the most widely used. 

 

Spark

 

The fourth step of making electrical power cable is Spark test. Spark test is a real - time voltage test in cable manufacturing. It' s a very important part of it.

 

Cable

 

The fourth step of making electrical power cable is that make the cable after spark test become various specifications. Sometimes, there is a step to add shielding before the various specifications of the cable are made. There are many types of shielding, and different types of shielding are used for different cables. 

 

Inner Sheath

 

The fifth step of making electrical power cable is inner sheath It' s under the metal armor. It can play the role of gasket metal armoring, can also be used for corrosion protection of metal sheath. 

 

Metal Armoring

 

The sixth step of making electrical power cable is metal armoring. Metal armoring materials mostly use galvanized steel strip or galvanized steel wire. Metal armor can protect cables from damage caused by mechanical action. Metal armoring is subdivided into steel tape armoring ( STA ) steel wire armoring ( SWA ) aluminum tape armoring ( ATA ) aluminum wire armoring ( AWA ). Different types of metal armor are used for different electrical cable.

 

 

Outer Sheath

 

The seventh step of making electrical power cable is outer sheath. The outer sheath is the outermost protective sheath of the cable. It protects the metal armor from erosion. The outer sheath materials are mostly PE, PVC, XLPE, F. Under the premise of considering the cost performance, the general outer sheath uses PVC as the material.
