Advantages of Mineral Insulated Copper Clad Cable

MICC cable, also called magnesium oxide cable, is mainly composed of annealed copper, magnesium oxide insulation material, and metal sheath.

Highly conductive copper conductors combined with seamless steel tubes filled with magnesium oxide material make up a mineral insulated cable with a high level of safety. (The power cable has a metal sheath. In exceptional cases, it is possible to add a PVC/PE/XLPE sheath)

Advantages

1. Fire resistance

Copper and magnesium oxide are inorganic substances, so this cable will not burn. Even if it is close to the flame, it can keep operating.  The copper sheath melts at 1083°C, while the magnesium oxide insulation cures at 2800°C.

2. High operating temperature

Mineral insulated cable continuous operating temperature up to 250 ℃. (Note: the cable can continue to operate for a short time at a temperature close to the melting point of the copper sheath.)

3. Long life

Mineral insulated cables are composed of inorganic materials,so they are stable, long-lasting, and fire-resistant.

4.Explosion-proof

It consists of highly compacted insulation that prevents the passage of vapors, gases, and flames between the equipment parts connected to the cables.

5. Small outer diameter

The diameter of the mineral insulated cable is smaller than other cables with the same rated current.

6. Waterproof

If the mineral insulated cable becomes fully submerged in water, it can keep running with the help of its seamless metal sheath.

7. High mechanical strength

Mineral insulated cables are robust and durable. Even if they sustain severe mechanical damage, the electrical properties remain unimpaired.

8. High load capacity

Mineral insulated cables carry more current than cables of the same cross-section.

At the same time, mineral insulated cables can also withstand a considerable amount of current overload.

9. Short-circuit fault rating

Under the same temperature, the short-circuit fault rating of mineral-insulated cables is higher than other types of power cables.

10. Grounding

The cable does not require a separate grounding conductor. Because the copper sheath acts as a grounding conductor, it provides excellent grounding resistance.

11. High corrosion resistance

Copper sheaths have a high level of corrosion resistance.  Plastic outer sheaths are useful where copper sheaths are susceptible to chemical corrosion or heavy industrial contamination.

ZMS Cables is a global cable distributor. Our cables use high-quality conductor materials for good conductivity, quality, and long life.
